In society, women are expected to be the main caregiver for children and tend to the cleaning of the house. They are expected to cook, clean, and take care of the children. My picture was inspired by the reading, “The Problem That Has No Name”, because it discusses how in the late 50s and early 60s, women were expected to be the picture perfect housewives. The problem with that though, was women were no longer satisfied with the lives they were expected to live. Girls have always been taught that when they grow up, the cooking, cleaning, and parenting falls to them. Men are not expected to cook, or clean, or stay home with the children. Even though times have changed, in today’s society, women are still expected to have the roles of a housewife, but now they are also expected to work. In my picture, there is a young mother who just got off of work and is cleaning up her home. She is carrying the child to show that she is always multi-tasking. The mother and her sleepy child are the main focus, but you can also see her washing dishes over a full sink. A woman’s job is never ending. She works 24/7, 7 days a week. Once she gets done working an eight hour day, she is expected to come home and have dinner ready for the man once he gets off of work. She is then expected to clean up the dinner mess, do the dishes, clean the house and do the laundry. The next day, she is expected to start over. When girls are young, they play with baby dolls, and have plastic kitchens and easy bake ovens. They are taught at a young age that this is what is expected of them once they get older.

This post is so true women are always "working" whether they are working at work or at home. It never stops for women. From along time ago until now women have been made to be the ones who are supposed to be "housewives" while men go out and get the money. Women are supposed to cook, clean and take care of the kids as well. For a while they were not allowed to go out and have jobs, mainly supposed to take care of the household duties and although now women are allowed to venture out and have jobs they still are supposed to take care of their household duties. You rarely see men abiding by these duties which is sad because women truly do everything!
Women are expected to take on all the extra work involving chores and childcare. Her back is turned to hide 'the problem that has no name' because that is what women in the 50's and 60's had to mask in front of society. A small detail I noticed that half of the blinds behind her are not in order, inffering that even though at first, there is order and cooperation, but deep down there is distress which women dealt with but hardly ever exposed.
