My image is focusing on how working out and using supplements is prioritized in peoples lives today. My image is referring to the "beauty is a beast" section in our textbook. I chose to take a picture of myself, including all of the protein powders, diet supplements, and gym equipment that’s in my house so show that many people put their body at risk to look like a model or how society thinks we all should look. My whole family has been really focused on going to the gym and working out and getting healthy. My brother started using a lot of protein powders and eventually got my dad and I to start using them. So now every time my brother goes to the gym, he takes 3 different protein shakes, and when he gets back from the gym, he takes three others. We have so much protein powder in my house that it takes up space in my pantry where we cant put food. I chose to show all of the powders and supplements because of how important they are in peoples eyes when it comes to trying to lose weight and get healthy. I think that you don’t need all of them, just to try and lose weight, or "get big". I think you should just eat healthy, and workout and not take all different kinds of powders that could have a negative effect on your body. I chose to take the picture of me in front of the mirror in my workout clothes, with a measuring tape around my neck to show that trying to lose weight and get skinny while using a bunch of supplements and powders can be harmful. People can get so into taking supplements and protein powders that they don’t eat enough food, or they can get sick from it. I chose to only show the color of the supplements, the powders, and the images of the models on my mirror because that is what people see when they are focused on losing weight. i chose to include the magazine pictures of the models in my image to show that media is an influence on doing this. When teenage girls see the swimsuit catalog from Victoria's secret, and then look in the mirror and see that they don’t even look as good as the models, they find ways to try and look like them. For example, taking supplements and harming their bodies. There are four different supplements on the left that are from "Shred'z Army". Shredz Army is a diet that has three different supplements, that you take before and after working out, and a protein powder. I chose to show the color of them because they are what some people will use when they try to lose weight. I chose to not smile in the picture to show that when girls look in the mirror and see themselves, they aren't happy because they don’t look like magazines models. I chose to blur out my body, and only show the diet supplements, the protein powders, and the models because I wanted to show how they are important in my family, and in the world to try and get a "good body image" according to pictures and models. I chose to take the picture at an angle because its showing that your body can be at an unbalanced level of the right vitamins and minerals that is needed because of taking a lot of supplements and protein powders. Today, a lot of people would rather put their bod at risk to try and get to societies idea of "healthy" instead of being happy with their own idea of "healthy" and doing it the right way.

This image is very interesting to me for a number of reasons. I find the image of building muscle and the protein powders to be a topic we do not usually discuss when referring to women. Yet, just like a woman pushing her body to far to get excessively thin, it's quite the same for a woman body-builder. Another detail I find very interesting, all of the nutrition labels are pointed towards her or the viewer. This really symbolizes the idea of women being overly absorbed in reading labels, not ever over eating, and always counting calories.
In a society where being ridiculously fit/skinny is glorified beyond measure, it’s very important for young girls and boys to realize the difference between having an unhealthy obsession with how one looks, and being healthy. This photo hits the nail on the head because it’s showing a young girls’ unhealthy obsession with being skinny over being healthy. The tape measure that’s around her neck signifies the fact that her obsession with the way she looks is slowly killing her. It’s a shame that people in today’s society are so pressured by what the media tells them they should look like. I think this photo captures this idea pretty well.
Today's society we look at models and body builders to get our aspiration. We live in a world where everyone wants to be fit or as skinny as a model which is so sad to me. Everyone always compares themselves to someone who is skinny or is really fit. No one like to just be themselves and love themselves anymore. We are told that if we do not look or act a certain way then we are not what society wants us to be. In the picture he body is in black and white with the pictures of fit girls and the protein still with color. Bringing to light that these are the things that are important now.
The environment of this picture is very interesting because it is in a small bathroom. The bathroom is almost like a sanctuary for women in particular, however it can also be a place of self-judgment. Here it is where we strip to see all of us and the mirror, reflecting sometimes what can be undesirable, increases our desire to further try to improve ourselves.

I like how she is actually kind of blurred out but the images of the woman in bikinis are focused on, show that she is not worried her health and well being, but focused on what she aspires to look like. I also noticed how the protein/diet bottles are in color which also shows that she will even use substances to get to the body that she wants, so she can live up to societies standards.
