In this photo you see a one
year old baby who has just started walking and seems to be enjoying learning
her surroundings. But if you look closer at her stance and what she has on you
would see that she has on flower patterned overalls and she stands with a wide
confident stance, even though she has only just started walking she stands as
if she has been walking all he life. Looking at this young child you can also
see how she takes up the full frame of the picture and is looking right at the
camera, this demonstrates how even at a young age children are learning to be
more confident and self-dependent. Now what does that mean for future
generations? Well only the future can tell us.

Zoe's stance may resemble the fact that she is confident and self-dependent but when will she learn how to interact with babies and toddlers? Gender schemas are known as "knowledge structures that guide how people perceive and organize the world and how they behave towards others. Within the development of gender relations, the way Zoe stands with a wide stance focuses on one of the two cultures of childhood: interaction styles. The way she stands is a way that a boy stands, not a way that girl stands because boys are taught to stand with somewhat of a wide stance and girls are taught to stand with their legs closed. Interaction styles differ by the ages of 3 and 4: boys are aggressive and assertive while girls are sensitive, negotiable, and polite. When I clicked on the photo to get a closer look at Zoe, it seemed as if she was wearing girl clothes and a pair of boy shoes with a wide stance. She looks passed the camera as if she knows where she wants to go or wants to get whatever may be passed the camera. Her stare seems a little aggressive yet very assertive. However, her right hand behind her leg looks like she could be hiding something (which looks slightly aggressive)while her left hand casually hangs down (which looks sweet, innocent, and polite). Her mouth looks as they she is trying to hold back from saying something impolite; this can strike as social aggression towards someone. Zoe seems like she has a little bit of both types of interaction styles. Zoe looks sweet and innocent, but has a facial expression and stance that poses as a threat or aggressive form.
