A Man's Boy

from: Justin

When you look at this photo tell me what you see. Is this simply a little boy playing with his toys? Or is it a boy playing with the toys we as a society say he should be playing with. Is this a little boy wearing his favorite t-shirt? Or once again is this something the society as a whole has deemed the "œright-way." The little boy in the picture is my three year old brother, and whereas he like his building blocks and cars did he choose these toys or were those toys already boxed and shipped with the intent for him to play with them. If he would have been wearing a pink shirt and holding a Barbie that would be a problem. Right? What we in society see as a problem are the things that aren't "normal." However what we should do is focus on "dismantling the master'™s house" so to speak. Why do toys in America have to be so gender related, if a boy picks up a girls toy and enjoys playing with it does that mean he'™ll be less of a man or even gay? I think not actually I feel that if more boys and girls shared their typical gender toys than there wouldn’t be a need to promote the so called "tough guise" or it wouldn'™t be hard for a women to pursue a male dominated job because there wouldn'™t be the distinguished fields. By socializing children in a way that teaches equality and tolerance I feel that we could break away from the norms that tie us as people down from reaching our full potential.
