The Price of Beauty

from: Rachel

We all know that little girls watch Mommy put her makeup on, and they want to imitate; but with Mommy's makeup. As you can see, little girls no longer have to wear their Mommy's makeup. They can get their own pretty princess makeup. At the top of the photo you can see it says "Cosmetics Organizations". I wanted to include that in the photo to show you that this makeup wasn't found in the young girls clothing section, or near the toys or dress up. This was found right where all the other "adult" makeup is found. I thought it was interesting to see it sold that way. Could it be for when Mommy is buying her makeup, her daughter will see makeup for kids and want to buy it? Some mothers don't want their daughters thinking that girls have to wear makeup, but since it is for kids, then it's fine. What I also noticed about this makeup that it had a lot of characters on the boxes, such as Disney princesses, Tinker Bell, and even Hello Kitty. In class we discussed that Disney movies make it seem like the girl has to be beautiful and hopeless in order to get a man; well now she has to wear makeup too. If parents don't want their children getting the wrong idea, they should watch what they buy for them.

Yea that Disney video was crazy. I think that the placement was put there on purpose. Thats just good marketing from their standpoint. I never realized the impact that Disney has on its kids. Its crazy that you can analyze the movies like that and see all the crazy stuff Disney bestows on to children. The idea that girl cant get a man unless they are helpless and beautiful is sad. I dont know, I think it can be analyzed that way if you look into that much, but I dont know if thats what epople really think.. Either way, the fact that disney not only controls the movies, but makeup too is crazy. haha.
