Tea Party

from: Shannon

I feel that my picture depicts the definition of gender socialization because it shows what a normal little girl looks like and feels like on her birthday. Gender socialization is the differences between females and males in a particular culture. Growing up in our culture, as the same in others, gender socialization is learned, practiced, and understood at a young age. Children learn these things from many places in their everyday life including parents, friends, school, and the media. I chose this picture because it had bright colors and a smiling face that gives the picture a feeling of happiness that all young children feel when a whole day is dedicated to them. This shows a difference between boys and girls because little boys do not get all dolled up like little girls do when they are having a birthday party. Starting at even a child's first birthday this is apparent because it's common for parents to really dress up girls for their fancy tea party birthdays such as picture. A very important concept of this picture would be the sincere emotion that is being expressed. All of the elements of this picture including light, colors, emotion, point of view, and setting all create this picture that accurately describe gender socialization. Gender identity is something that is learned and taught at a very young age so by the time these children hit adult hood the gender difference are almost automatic and practically first nature.

its a very cute picture. ubt i agree with you in kids learning from their parents. I mean wy sould the clothes you wear really matter? do the clothes you wear really make you happy? That ittle girl doesnt know the rules yet, at least not the complexity. Thats the beauty of being a kid, not having a care in the world. Why do parent shave to mess it up y dressing their young daughter up for a tea party? why couldnt she have a GIJOE party and be just as happy?
