In the marching band the drum major is the person who stands in front of the band and conduct them so that they know the tempo and when and when not to play. The Broadneck High School Marching Band has two drum majors, a male and female. This picture shows that the female drum major who has just as much authority as the male is not being looked at! I think this shows that the band is not paying as much attention to her because they think that she has a lower skill level or think she doesn't hold as much authority. It shows that the expectations of females in leadership positions are still lower due to people thinking that females cannot handle the pressures of being strict of making decisions. The face of the female drum major shows these things by looking slightly empowered, she still looking frustrated at the fact that no one is looking at her for the cues they need to do a good job and succeed in what they are trying to accomplish.

I think this makes a good point. Because many times people think that women wont make as good of a leader as men and that is def. not true. women and men still are no where near equal in our society.
This picture is a great representation that women as leaders aren't taken seriously. The people in the photo should suck it up and look at her or else they won't know what to do when the time comes. Society has done this to us though, since way back when women were never as good as men, the only people women could give orders to were their childern and even then the father had the final word. I also like this picture because the female drum major still has good posture and does a very good job of covering up her dissatisfaction on her face, she hasn't given up yet and thats important.
