Society's Young Girl

From Stephen

When I first took this picture for my photo blog assignment I didn't think it would be the one that I would pick for my final project. After further viewing of the picture I found a few interesting points. First of all the hangers in the picture depict that it was taken in a clothing store, it shows that children are being socialized at a young age. Secondly the pink dress with the pink sweater seems to be a model for what a small girl should be in society, which I thought was interesting to see how openly it was being advertised. The other outfit on the right I found equally interesting because it was feminine and also masculine because of it's colorful under shirt and it's pants. In this picture I also decided to leave the look that it seems to be placed on top of a shelf. The display of the clothing on top of a shelf to me sort of says that it is made more important than the other clothing in the store, which shows that it is designed to help socialize children. Although these decisions to display these clothes may have been made unconsciously, it shows how people may not of how children are being gender socialized when they purchase the clothing.
