A Phoney Woman

In my photo there are a number of items that many females feel they need to use in order to be what society considers beautiful. The media that we expose ourselves to set impossible expectations for how a woman should look. We begin to be exposed to such media at a very young age, when things are most impressionable on our minds. In my photo I have different exercise equipment. I've placed this here to show that woman feel pressured to have thin, toned bodies. Many actresses, models, and other famous woman are very thin, usually too thin, which causes many women to also want to be very thin. In my photo I also have many hair products such as a blow dryer, flat iron, brushes, hair spray, mousse, and more. I chose to put these products in to show how much time, money, and effort goes into perfecting woman's hair. Society has decided that long straight hair is beautiful and females will spend a lot of time to get their hair to meet these standards. I've also placed three different hair removal products in my photo. There are numerous commercials showing the attention females get when there legs are perfectly smooth and shaven, which causes woman to try almost every hair removal product there is out there. There is also a lot of makeup scattered throughout all of the products in my photo. Girls are starting to wear makeup at younger and younger ages. Girls see older woman wear makeup, so in return they wear it to look older and "prettier." This is very problematic because girls are learning at a young age that they aren't pretty enough on their own and that they need makeup in order to be beautiful. I've placed all of the products in a garbage can to show that none of these products are necessary. All of these products are hurting girl's self-esteems in subtle but important ways and should just be thrown away. Everything is placed in front of a mirror because unfortunately, every time a woman walks passed a mirror she is reminded of her looks and begins to feel self conscious of her looks.
