Beauty Hurts

from Tatiana

In this photo is the top of my friends dresser. As you can see there are a lot of items piled up. There are hair products, nail polish, brushes, face wash, jewelry, perfume etc. this picture shows how much a female does and pay to look pretty. Most of the items are mostly pink. Like the piggy bank, nail polish and hair creme removal. Its showing that she must try to keep herself looking nice no matter the cost or damage. By shaving and damaging the hair with the products. With all of those items in the picture a lot of money is being wasted. Once of the products is finished time to buy the next one. This picture shows a girl has to basically do everything to her body to make it fit in. the lotion to make her hands soft, the famous product Clearasil because people find pimples unattractive, the perfume to smell good and get guys attention and so on. Moat of the time girls do all these things to get guys attention and to fit in. but mostly of the media. Most of the products in the picture like the Clearasil and the shaving cream are shown a lot in TV commercial so teenage girls get influenced to buy it.

This photo shows that media plays an impact on the products that adolescents buy. Magazines aim aids at women to make them feel like they need different products to make them beautiful. Clearsil is an aid aimed at teens that worry about pimples and acne. The different grooming products are well known, and highly advertised products towards teen girls. The picture shows that teen girls work on looking their best to measure up to expectations of beauty in our society. Teen girls hurt themselves physically (chemicals in creams) and economically. I noticed in the photo that piggy bank is slanted. I think that the piggy bank is slanted to show where the teen’s money ends up going (on beauty products). The mirror and the different styling products shows the measures girls take to impress others.

The media shows a lot of beauty products in order to make girls feel that they need them in order to feel beautiful. These are items that girls use to make themselves feel better about themselves. They want to impress people with their looks and these products give them the feeling that people will accept them.

This picture represents what every seller wants. They want girls to believe that these products will make them truly beautiful. The franchise of makeup and hair and skin products is making billions of dollars off of making girls feel like they arent good enough. No one can be flawless. This image that the media puts out of perfect girls killing the self esteem of every girl, who is beautiful in her own way. We cannot live to be perfect, although that is what girls push themselves to be.
