This picture symbolizes what girls might be expected to like, and their fear of explaining that they might like different things. I wanted to get the point across that some girls are silent about the things they want to do because they are afraid of being looked at differently. Girls are raised playing with dolls, kitchen sets, and toy makeup-- once those girls grow up, they may no longer enjoy those things. But because they were raised that way, later on those girls are intimidated about what other people's reactions might be that they will hide their true feelings. Or they might feel as if it isn't normal for them to enjoy different things. The girl in this photo has a secret; it is visible that the girl does not want to be found reading a magazine that a girl her age would not likely read. The known stereotype is that teenage girls love Cosmo Girl, Allure or Seventeen. The reason that it is rare to see a girl reading a military magazine, or a doctor's magazine is because they are too afraid to talk about it. I want people to open their eyes that girls and woman are allowed to enjoy other things besides beauty products, and fashion magazines. And that it is normal, don't treat them as if they were Barbie dolls.

In this picture, it seems like the girl reading the Military magazine wants to hide it, because the fact that she has a Cosmoplitan magazine is showing that she knows what is acceptable and unacceptable in society. Cosmo offers advice on everything from hair, make up, and fashion, to sex, diet, and exercise plans. They feed girls what everyone wants to see, and not the feelings and dreams of real girls. Our society gives off standards that is almost impossible for any girl to live up too, therefore that is the reason girls are forced to hide things that they really want and put themselves through unthinkable things to reach "goals". The girl in this picture obviously knows what is "acceptable" and "unacceptable" in our society, based on media images. This picture just shows the basis of where problems of our youth start. The way her eyes are wondering off seem like she is nervous about being caught reading something that is viewed as very manly. The fact that she is nerbous to be seen even reading something should really tell our society something- This girl, is one of millions who is too scared to show her dreams in fear that she may be rejected by society. Although it's a really simple picture, it gives off a really serious message.
I agree with Skye about girls having the expectations to like certain things, and the same goes for boys. It may even be more harsh for boys, for example it is not expectable for boys to play with barbies but for girls to play with cars it is not seen as bad.
There are too many girls trying when they dont need to be.
The media puts this idea in girls heads that there is only one right way to look if you wanna look good. Many girls have different styles and like different things but they just dont want anyone to know for the fear of being an outcast. They want people to accept and like them so they go along with what is normal.
