Media's Little Victim‏

from Leandra

My photo represents how the media influences the female gender, especially in little girls. The photo tells the story of a little girl who wants to be and tries to be just like the celebrities on television. At a very young age, this is what she believes all women should look like. I chose the color or tint of the picture because the purple is a very "girly" color; purple in a lot of cases usually means pretty, it sets the tone for the picture. The little girl putting on the makeup represents imitation, or the desire to look like the celebrities, showing that make-up will make you beautiful or the idea of what beauty is. Each photo on the floor is a well loved, popular, and not to mention beautiful celebrity, someone many little girls look up to or wish they could be. The little girl is admiring these pictures along with the magazine also on the floor with many other pretty, "made-up" faces. Also, there is a hand that is slightly shown, which is applying mascara on the girl, which shows that little girls are not the only ones that are influenced, people older seem not to realize media's affects either. In the foreground, there is other types of makeup scattered, which shows it isn't just a little you should wear, it's a lot. The angle of the picture is looking down onto the little girl and the pictures, to show how much attention she is giving to the images. Towards the background there is a bottle of water laying on the ground, the media influences little girls that sex and beauty sells but also a good body image, so you must be thin; drink a lot of water.

Even when girls are young they see these media advertisements of these women. They already feel the desire to be beautiful like these girls they see in the magazines. They start putting on making at a young age. They also start dressing like these girls because thats how beauty is portrayed.
