Male Dominance & Aggression in Solo Creative Play‏

From Rebecca
Perhaps the first thing you notice is what Kalab is wearing and how it sticks out against the background. He is wearing all blue, a color that is associated with boys. The background is mostly green and brown, combined it is often known as camouflage, which is normally associated with the Unites States military and is predominantly male. More specifically in the background you see two shadows from the trees. The biggest shadow runs diagonally through the picture and appears as one of the most dominating elements of the photo. A shadow in psychology represents weaknesses and shortcomings and its dark shade could insinuate something evil or scary. It presents itself as a line not to be crossed. With his feet stretched apart at the edges and his upper body hovering over the shadow, creating an isosceles triangle, Kalab's position at the triangle's peak suggests dominance and power. The expression on Kalab's face portrays anger and aggression, as he is on the offense and willing to oppose. Both of his arms are grasping the large stick pointed at the sky, asserting authority over the shadow. It's evident that Kalab did attack the shadow as a piece of the large stick is in motion at Kalab's right foot, making a declaration of his strength.

i do believe that this is true. i have a younger brother and when i see this picture its reminds me of the he plays when he is by himself. even the colors the the boy is wearing represents a little boy. This photo shows how young little boys are becoming more violent and aggressive and it has something to do with gender and the ways boys believe they should behave

This picture does a nice job of illustrating how males learn to play and the way they go about it. Most male related games revolve around some sort of violent nature; playing with fake guns or even contact games. The expression on the young boys face makes it seem like he is getting all of his aggression and problems, as many as you can have at that age, out by hitting this stick on the ground. This semi-violent relief shows the way males go about expressing themselves, instead of talking about how they feel they will resort to question alternatives.

Something that is significant in this photo is that he is playing outside and is in jeans, sneakers, and a long sleeve t-shirt. This outfit is allowing him to play agressively. Most girls when dressed are in dresses or other types of girly clothes that dont allow them to play agressively outside.

I like the way he is showing that males in order to feel like a man you must show aggression in our society. He is very dominant and even though the shadow is taking up a large view of the photo showing that society believes males should be aggressive to a certain point. But is obvious that in the photo Kalab is showing he is more powerful than other boys in society

I think this picture shows us how from a young age, males are taught to be aggressive and domninant. This is most likely the reason why males are seen as the dominant gender, because they are taught to act this way from such a young age while little girls are taught to be submissive and in distress.
