Perfect Body

From: Taylor
For my Photo/Blog Assignment, I decided to take a picture of Barbies arranged in the symbol for “female” with diet pills in the middle. I thought of this idea because so many girls are obsessed with having a perfect body and will go to great lengths to get that body. I chose to make the “female” symbol out of Barbie dolls because that is something society views as a perfect body. In our culture, Barbies have always been considered beautiful. I also chose to use Barbie dolls because almost every little girl plays with them and when they are seeing this doll every day, they grow up with that image of beauty in their minds. Some girls will do almost anything to get that “Barbie body” so I put diet pills in my picture to represent one of the ways girls try to lose weight. For the back ground of my picture, I decided to make it sort of dark and depressing because many girls feel depressed by their bodies and the way they look.

I agree with your statement that girls are obsessed with having perfect bodies. The diet pills that you placed in the middle of the Barbie dolls can also represent how many girls in today's culture want instant results in weight loss instead of actually putting in the time and effort. I liked how you placed the Barbie dolls in the “female” symbol. Not only does society view the Barbie doll figure as the perfect body, society also puts down and discriminates against anyone who doesn’t fit this so called “perfect” body type. Another thing that I found interesting in your photo is that most of the Barbie dolls are light skinned and have blonde hair. So when little girls play with Barbie dolls they are taught that beauty consists of three characteristics: the “Barbie body,” a light-skinned complexion, and blonde hair. The hardwood in the background can also symbolize the miserable and uncomfortable feeling the girls get when they think they have to fit the stereotypical “Barbie body.” The way you took the photo looking down at the dolls makes the viewer understand that women’s bodies are constantly the main focus in today’s culture. I enjoyed viewing your photo and I think you did a great job at describing and analyzing it.

In the photo, “Perfect Body” it shows how media starts telling girls what they should look like at a young age. Young girls know from when they started playing with Barbies that they must be skinny with big boos and long legs: an almost impossible body type. She put the Barbies in the shape of the female sex symbol and put diet pills in the middle. The diet pills show how the Medias influence of the perfect body drives women to do drastic things to lose weight. Women use diet supplements, turn anorexic or bulimic. Media is at fault for eating disorders and the downfall of women’s self esteem.

This photo of a barbie arranged unk portrays your exact message. I like the idea of placing diet pills within the middle of the unk referencing the measures in which women take in order to become that perceived barbie image of what a woman should look like.

This photo is brilliant! At first I didn't understand why the barbies were set in the way they were, but after I read the description it all made sense. The idea of the barbies portraying a stereotypical perfect female body really reflects how the media affects women's self body images. Looking at these beautiful, long-haired, slender bodies with perfect butts and large breasts just make women want to look more like the "perfect" woman.
