Our View Control, Our Feelings
From Will
The photograph depicts two average teens who follow two different sets of gender scripts. The perception that women are seen merely for their features such as how curve there body is and physical appearance, tends cause females to focus on perfecting their appearance in order to impress males. In our culture women are perceived as sex symbols which intake leads to self consciousness and later could result in depression. The speech clouds demonstrate thoughts of both the male and female, as you can see their thoughts are completely different. The female in the photo seems to be self conscious; her thoughts compose of the male perceiving her as merely an object and not an intellectual person. As a defense mechanism, she resorts to the use of make up to cover up her flaws. In society this leading to young teens feeling the need to use beauty products in order to be considered beautiful or even to be accepted by males. The difference in the lighting represents women struggle of equality. so woman and males grow too mature in a way to appreciate the opposite sex in two completely different ways due to cultural views. The window's in the picture demonstrates that in our culture, a male is always the one to look upon whereas a female is the one to be looked at. When the female looks at herself, her words hold no significance or power so it’s as if she's talking too air. As for the guy in the photo he views women in a sexual way but doesn’t try to get to know them on a deeper level. This is the way he has been taught how to treat a woman, as he grew up in this culture and what he observed. Generally males have the tendency of being power hunger whereas females tend to be submissive. Males learn at an early age that Power is a control and is part of Masculinity. For example there was a "Problem with no name" known where woman just didn't know how to Articulate their feelings towards equality, but men have always been outspoken and that can be seen just by looking back at cultural events.

I found this photo really interesting, especially because it was made by a boy. This is mainly because it shows from a man's point of view what a typical teenage male thinks about when he is interested in a girl. It shows that for the most part, men are thinking about what they will do to impress the girl by changing their attitude but not their appearance. It further shows the box that men are put into by "just following that script" as if he will not be manly enough for his friends if he takes interest in things other than what the girl looks like. The girl on the other hand is thinking about not how she will act around the boy but how she will dress and the way her body looks. It symbolizes that women have become so obsessed with the way they look, they don't even think about what they will say to the man to try and impress them. Our society has become literally taken over with images of ideal women that some women invest more money in what they put on their body than what they put in their mind. Even the man is only thinking about her looks not about what she will say - as if her opinion doesn't matter as long as she looks good and she likes him. The separation on the photo also shows how men and women are separated not only by their gender but also in the way they present themselves and think.
This photo is very interesting to me because on a daily bases this is what teenage girls go through. It shows that some times all boys look at is how attractive the girl is and what she has. Whether than focusing on her intellgience and her inner beauty. This causes some teenage girls to be more concerned about their self image rather than their selfs. All they tend to think about it how others portray them and these teenage girl make it hard for other teenage girls that actually do care about more than their self image. They want boys and men to respect them for who they are inside and out.
