In this photo, I put together different parts of women's body parts. I have noticed a lot with younger girls that they tend to want to look like celebrities do. They do not care what the risk is (starving, surgery ect.) they will do whatever it takes to look like them. The typical celebrity has a pretty face, big breasts, small waist, nice round booty, and long lean legs. Young teenagers are constantly reminded of these perfect figured women because they see them everywhere. They see them in magazines, on billboards, movies, television ect, therefore they are constantly reminded of this image. The media is a big part of this because they shape this Barbie type figure and want young girls to believe that all women should look like that. It is so sad that they try to put this image in our head because no matter what you look like on the outside...it's the inside that matters.

The "Perfect" Image

I think this picture perfectly illustrates the way the media influences women in today’s society. The media is constantly giving a standard to women today of how they should look to meet the standards of being “pretty” or “beautiful”. It even starts at being a young child with Barbie dolls, in Disney characters, etc. portraying the image that they will look up to, and inspire to be even if that means just the physical attributes. Then as the children grow older, the media whether it not be in movies, television shows, or these magazines, are showing girls what they “should” look like if they want to be “accepted” by society and not looked at as ugly or straying outside of the norm, which is what a lot of girls fear when growing up through middle school until high school and even college. They strive to have the perfect body, the perfect face, beautiful skin, nice hair, etc. even if this means surgical procedures to do so, which is quite sad. This photo can allow you to see the obstacles, weaknesses, and struggles that girls go through every day though it is subtly shown.
This picture not only shows how women are glorified in the media based upon their bodies but also how it can effect young girls. Girls at a very younng age are exposed to these images and begin to wish that they would grow up so that they too can look like "the ideal woman". Not only do cartoons and disney movies expose young girls to images of ideal women but pagent shows such as "Toddlers in Tiaras" also show young girls being changed to look older and therefore "more beautiful". What does that teach young girls today? That they are somehow not beautiful or perfect without makeup, tanning, or extensions in their hair? I think this photo also symbolizes how no one woman is perfect enough for society, that we literally need to piece together different women to make one that is so called "ideal".
I think this photo really demonstrates what the media displays women’s ideal look for society today. Every woman wants to be skinny and petite and many are taking risks that are unhealthy for your body such as anorexia or bulimia. It’s a major issue for women to this day because the ideal look that the media displays is for women to be petite and small. This photo really describes the point that’s being made. Women are their own individual sizes and instead of the media only displaying one look they need to show that every woman is unique and built special in each and every way. This image that is displayed in the media has a major effect on the younger girls too, mainly adolescence. They think that since celebrities look like this that they have to also. The media fills up young girls’ heads with trying to look perfect, but really everyone was made to be different. No one was created the exact same. Your picture is really portraying the image that most young girls want to be and is taking extreme measures just to get. In the photo, the point is really being made that perfection is everything. But in real life no one is built perfect. I really liked this photo, it was super creative.
This photo was very creatie and prefectly illustrates the way the media wants young girls to be portrayed. As you can see many young girls look up to models and actors and singers because of all the spotlight they get. The are viewed as the perfect idols with nothing wrong with them. They have the perfect body, face, hair and ect. But, everyone knows that in soiety not everyone is perfect but, for young girls this is hard to explain to them because of how much they are exposed to the media.
I believe this photo blog shows a very important aspect of our society. This impossible expectation of our body types that is portrayed by the media in magazines, television, movies, etc is setting up girls for failure. Obviously not everyone’s body is going to be built like a movie star’s with a tiny waist, large breasts and a toned thigh/buttocks area. It’s nice that the artist pulled from different clippings, to show that this type of advertisement is found everywhere. Also, I think the way the artist used the different clippings of words to illustrate their point was very creative: they are all words we see correlated along with the images she selected from, so it shows how trained we have become to see those images as beautiful.
