In this photograph you see a teenage girl putting on
makeup, and watching a video on how to get the perfect look. In the background
there is a clock. Girls at any age will be influenced by makeup, society, and
the internet. "Physical attractiveness is important for both sexes, but it
is particularly emphasized for women as a requisite for attracting a
mate"(240). This quote states that a girl has to be attractive in order to
attract a partner. Girls are taught at a very young age that they need to look beautiful.
They also have an idea that if they do not put on makeup, then men in the
society will dislike them or would not think they are pretty. With all of the
absurd expectations society has on girls, and women they eventually start
feeling insecure. Women start thinking about implants and what they can do to
make guys or men notice them. Also, girls have a perceptive that boys their age
will not notice them unless they have makeup on. The internet influences girls
to buy makeup, to make their skin flawless, and to hide their imperfections. I
think this gives a wrong message to teenage girls. In this picture it is giving
a statement that no matter what time it is or where she is going, she should
get up extra early to put on makeup. Girls will go through and do anything just
to fit the society’s description of being an attractive woman. Before she
leaves the house or room, girls check to make sure they look attractive. No
matter what size, color, race a girl is, they should feel good about themselves
and should be confident. They should not worry about looking a certain way just
to impress a guy or try to fit into society’s description of how girls should
look and dress like.

This photograph stood out to me, as this is a current problem with young girls today. A lot of young females dress and wear makeup that isn’t appropriate for their age. Young girls wear clothing that makes them look older than they really are. They fear that they won’t fit in with other classmates if they aren’t attractive enough. I have a younger sister (12,) so this photo speaks out to me. Every morning when I get up to get ready for work or school she is in the bathroom doing her hair and makeup. By that time she has already been up for an hour just getting ready for school. Girls are so pressed on the way they look when they go to school, that they get up early to be “attractive” when they could have gotten a couple more hours of sleep.
