Glass Slipper Effect is effecting females at adolescence. The effect explains that if a child watches any princess movie such as Cinderella, The Little Mermaid & Beauty and the Beast, she will experience the Glass Slipper Effect. When girls watch princess movies, it persuades them to wait for “Prince Charming” or “Knight in Shining Armor” and that causes the girls to have poor judgment on other males. Later in life, when females wait for this type of man it blinds them on higher level careers. All this cannot be controlled, and it alters the brain unconsciously which causes conflict for women. Fairy tales are cute for kids but adults see the problems behind them. The Little Mermaid tells children that they don't need their voices; so they end up using their sexuality to get the prince. Beauty and The Beast shows a main character that who develops Stockholm Syndrome. Fairy tales makes females think they have to rely on a male to save them at the end which makes them feel less confident in life. These fairy tales are telling females how to keep a man with anything else other than intelligence.
The man in the black suit is representing “Prince Charming” with his hand extending out trying to help a helpless female that has been watching fairy tales since childhood. The female is in her prom dress representing Cinderella’s ball scene. The female has a VHS copy of Cinderella while watching a princess movie on TV. Even though you can’t officially see the TV, the princess movie indicates that it starts young and can drawn the female to it. This photo is close up with a black background to show that the female has insecurities, feels small, and has no confidence. It all starts by watching princess movies and may get worse with older age since the female in this photo is now nineteen-years old.

This was a very good message you got across. The glass slipper affect is something as a man I don't look to see in my everyday life. After hearing this it really broke it down for me, the way you explained how the movies young girls grow up watching causes them to wait on prince charming to come save them is a great point. Cause when they wait they can put a hold on their own career thinking a "prince charming" will come into their life and support them. Also having the picture small and boxed up to show she is not as confident that was a great way to portray that. Also the movies you included like beauty and the beast, little mermaid and prince charming were great to pick because those are very popular movies. All movies I have seen but never saw them in the way you explained. This is something all our women should know because society try's to make women feel that they need a man to support them and their guide but in reality women are very intelligent and can guide their own lives.
From Lucy:
I thought this photo/message was very interesting. When you first look you clearly see the woman in a pink dress but then as u follow her arm up it leads to a man reaching out to help her. In society, woman have always been portrayed as needing help from a man or that a man is always going to protect her and that she basically cannot protect herself. As a young girl, many of us have watched all these Disney movies and the movie being shown in the photo, and looked up to them. If you look deeper into the meaning of all of the movies they show different norms which girls now think they need to follow. This photo portrays that very well. I do not think women need a man to be able to provide and help herself. I think all women are capable of doing everything a man can even if it is nice to have someone around who can just do all those things for you. The pink dress also emphasizes the girliness of the gender norms. There's this idea that colors such as pink mean you're feminine but I think a girl can wear whatever color and still be considered feminine and same with males and masculinity.

Previous to this class, I did not know the term glass slipper effect. But, I did know little girls had an ideal fantasy of price charming. After viewing the film “Mickey Mouse Monopoly” I very much could put a name to the problem. As I child, I was in awe over Disney princesses and the fairytale lifestyle, including the prince. When discussing the fairytale fantasy now as an adult, I see the harmful ideologies they portray. First, in your photo, I think the choice of the VCR movie was wise. It shows personally where the girl learned these behaviors in childhood since you stated she was nineteen. Another thing that had great symbolism in your picture is color choice. Neither the man or woman is wearing white, which you typically think of in a fairytale. White shows purity, innocence, and softness, but the superior man in the photo is dressed in black showing the darkness and evil overcoming the woman. Moreover, the woman is also not in white, rather draped in red. Showing her boldness, vigor, and courage. Lastly, the use of body positioning in your photo was important. The man is the tallest object in the photo making him superior. His stance is also wide, showing dominance once again over the woman. The woman on the floor is in a “help, save me” position making her look almost like a victim. Unlike men that are taught to take up as much space as possible to be assertive, this woman was taught to make herself small.
