Spot Light

from: Bryanna

The picture is of my eight year old, female cousin. I told her that for my project I had to take a picture of her in her room. I told her she could pose however she wanted; she responded by saying “I’ll pose like I’m in the spotlight”. That’s how I came up with the title. I wanted her to pose in her room because the things that you see in the picture let you know that she is very young and immature. Although she is young, the way she posed and the way she made eye contact with the camera shows that she wants or likes to act more mature and older. Also I wanted to have the posters in the background of the picture because it shows that she is seeing older people in magazines and putting them on her wall either because she wants to be like them or because she looks up to them. One other thing that I wanted to share in the photo was the outfit that she is wearing. I told her that she could pick what she wanted to wear for the picture. I thought that the top she picked was a little mature for her age but that was the one she picked so I took the photo of her in it. I think that shows that she is seeing older women on the television in tops like that so she wanted to wear it in her photograph.

AAHHH, its so scary that young people want to be sexy. thats really weird. I wonder if the stats on pedophilia have gone up in the last couple decades... the sex symbols are getting younger and younger, for cing the even younger girls to conform to this image that is impossible for most to accomplish. Why would anyone want to be in the spotlight at such a young age...especially 8 years old. The fact that she has Hannah Montana Pictures up prove my point exactly. Why is that teenager on the cover of magazines as a sex symbol? What message does it give to girls like this little girl in the picture when Hanna Montana is taking lewd pictures of herself?
