Just by looking at this picture can you tell who was raised by their mom and who was raised by their dad? I took two girls of the same age, 17, and sat them side by side to show that who you were raised by can affect the way you are taught to dress, act, and go about life. It can also most definately influence your hobbies, such as the subject on the right, Madeline, was raised by her father, therefore taught to enjoy things that are gendered towards boys like football, note the Redskins jersey. Boys are geared towards almost looking undone, sweat pants, big shirts, and sport things, so when a girl is dressed like that it gives the impression she is mostly around guys, but its not always the case. Gwen however, the subject on the left, was raised for the majority of her life by her mother, with her fathers influences here and there. Therefore teaching her to be more of a girly girl, note the lacy tank top and pink phone in her hand. Girls are geared towards make up, high heels and dresses, so when a girl shows off her feminie side a majority of the time, one would assume she doesnt have much male influence. Although just by looking at the photo you can not automatically be aware of who these girls were raised by, I think it is easy to be able to make the assumption I am going for. Just because Madeline was brought up by her dad does not mean that she also does not enjoy girly things, and same for Gwen. It does not mean she does not enjoy more masculine things, its just easier to be able to enjoy certain stuff when theres someone encouraging it and when there is someone who likes to do the same things.

By looking at this picture, before I continued on to read and find out who was raised by who,
the answer was already apparent. The influence that media has on us causes what people
decide to wear say a lot about their lifestyle as well as their personality. It should not be this
way. In this case, just because Madeline is wearing a football jersey should not signify that a
male figure was mostly present in her life. And because Gwen is wearing a tank top should not
signify the opposite. But this is what we as a society have been taught; to pick up little things,
and assume so much of them. Notice the background appears to be a backyard with friendly
decorations as well as nicely planted flowers. Then look at the expressions of Madeline and
Gwen. Gwen is smiling happily while Madeline appears to be uncomfortable. Maybe it’s
because she’s in a surrounding that she’s not used to. Her father may not have done any type
of gardening as she was growing up unless it was cutting the grass because planting isn’t taught
to be a male job/hobby. This picture perfectly displays the message you were trying to get
across, and I agree both girls should still be able to enjoy the same things even though they
were raised by different parents.
When I first looked at this photo I noticed that one girl was dressed like a girly girl and one was dressed like a tom girl. Then when I went on to read about them it said that one was raised by her father and one by her mother. Then of course I then thought to myself that explains it. I don’t agree that society has the strongest impact on young kids. I definitely agree that the most impact on young kids is who they are surrounded by, their parents, family, and friends. In this case it would prove my point but its not always the case.
